Internship in research with a focus on energy transition Sino-German Energy Transition Project

1 About this job:

Location: P.R. China, Beijing

2 Internship introduction:

Our project provides insights into the ongoing Sino-German political cooperation as well as the latest energy transition trends in China and in Germany. We are looking for a motivated team player with a native level of Chinese and very good English (written and spoken) and a high interest in the topic of energy transition. The young professional will be supporting the team in Beijing in day-to-day project work. Further responsibilities will be research and translation services in the area of emissions, renewable energy installations, electricity market, energy transitions, and other related fields. He/she will get opportunities to be involved in a variety of project activities with German and Chinese think tanks.

The work will require great attention to detail and well-developed translating, writing, and research skills. The ideal candidate should work independently and flexibly. Previous work experience in research on energy and environmental science related topics is considered an asset.

 

3 About the project:

The Energy Transition Project aims to promote the low-carbon transition of China’s energy system by enabling an intensive exchange of expertise on issues related to the low-carbon energy policy. A special focus is on the preparation of energy forecasts and energy scenarios.

The project is implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) together with the Chinese political partner, the China National Energy Administration (NEA). The Chinese implementation partners are the Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute (EPPEI), which is the lead Chinese implementing partner, the Southern Grid Energy Development Research Institute (CSG EDRI), and the Shenyang Institute of Applied Ecology-China Academy of Science. On the German side, the main partner is the German Energy Agency (dena), which implements the project together with GIZ.

The programme is composed of four components:

Energy policy-related advice to Chinese policy-makers, via expert workshops, written replies to policy-maker questions on special topics, and attendance in multilateral energy policy working groups
Coordination of German and other expert advice and modelling related to energy transition policy, including expert visits, consulting contracts for research collaboration, report publications, and technical publications
Coordination of the contributions of other German partners
Dissemination of project results for greater visibility
 

4 The tasks:

Qualification Requirements:

Master or final year undergraduate student registered in a Chinese university and pursuing a degree in area related to engineering, energy, or environmental science;
Native-level Chinese (written and spoken), fluency in English (written and spoken);
Previous work experience in research on energy and environmental science related topics is considered an asset;
Strong interest in the project’s topics including emissions, renewable energy installations, electricity market, energy transitions, and other related fields;
Excellent command of relevant computer applications (e.g. MS Office);
Able to work independently, excellent organisational skills; efficient, accurate and high-quality delivery of all work-related output;
Excellent intercultural social skills and a team player.
